Our goal

We want this site to work for everyone who wants a floor, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, voice control, a magnifier, or a browser zoomed a long way in. We build towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We are not claiming a formal audit or a certificate, because we have not had one done and we are not going to say we have.

What we have done

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and the focus outline is visible wherever focus lands. A "Skip to content" link is the first thing you reach.
  • Text and background colours were measured rather than guessed. Body text, links, buttons and the text over the photograph on the home page all meet or beat the AA contrast ratio.
  • Headings run in order, so a screen reader's heading list is a usable table of contents. There is one H1 on each page.
  • Every photograph carries alt text that describes what is in it. Decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers rather than announced.
  • Form fields have real labels, the required ones are marked in the text and not by colour alone, and the confirmation message is announced by a live region.
  • The scrolling reviews on the home page have a pause button, and they stop when you hover or tab into them.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, every animation on the site turns off, including the moving floor behind the home page headline. Nothing disappears when it does.
  • Pinch-zoom is not blocked. You can zoom to 200% or more and the layout reflows rather than scrolling sideways.
  • Tap targets on phones are sized to be hit with a thumb, and the phone number sits in a fixed bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • The site is light-only by design, so a device set to dark mode does not have a dark version invented for it with unreadable results.

Where we know we fall short

  • Some photographs came off a phone in poor light. Alt text describes them, but a low-quality picture is still a low-quality picture.
  • The moving floor behind the home page headline is decorative. It is hidden from screen readers and it respects reduced motion, but on an old phone it can still make scrolling feel heavy.
  • Pages we link out to — Google, Yelp, Facebook, Google Maps — are not ours and we cannot vouch for how accessible they are.
  • We have not had an independent audit or user testing with assistive technology. We would rather say so than imply otherwise.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on this site does not work for you, we want to know, and we would rather hear it bluntly. Call (360) 671-4693 or email mobilefloors@gmail.com. Tell us the page and what happened. We will reply, and we will fix what we can fix.

Another way to get what you need

Nothing on this site is the only way to reach us. Every page has a phone number and an email address, and the whole business is built on somebody coming to your house with the samples. If reading a website is the hard part, skip it. Call and John will bring the showroom to you.

Changes to this page

We update this page when we change something that affects it. The date at the top is the last time it changed.
